The UAE was praised by the Prime Minister of Japan for its efforts in creating an open society and being a place where all nationalities can work together.

Speaking in a televised address on Day One of the World Government Summit 2017, HE Shinzo Abe said: “I was impressed by the way all nationalities creeds and religions work together in society in the UAE when I visited there in 2013.” and expressed his ‘deep appreciation’ for the country as ‘an oasis of tolerance’.

He also commented upon the remarkable progress the country has made in key areas, including healthcare, public services and education.

The Prime Minister also paid tribute the diversity of the Middle East as a whole, saying it had allowed the region to prospered since ancient times.

Turning to his own country, Abe stressed the importance of innovations in areas such as artificial intelligence to the Japanese economy, and advised governments around the world to follow suit.

“The government must dismantle barriers that interfere with innovation,” he said.
