INNOVATIVE ELECTRICITY AND WATER GENERATION PROJECTS TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY

<p>As the world faces serious challenges in climate change, water and energy constraints, H.E. Saeed Al Tayer, Managing Director of Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA), presented the UAE&rsquo;s innovative plan to boost clean energy and transform Dubai into the greenest and happiest city in the world. </p> <p>Firstly, H.E. stated that energy plays a pivotal role in the lives of individuals in the employment, development and sustainability fields. To make energy more affordable and sustainable, DEWA aims to achieve Dubai&rsquo;s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 that has been launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This innovative policy is a guaranteed step towards a better future for the region and future generations. It aims at providing 7% of the total energy output from clean resources by 2020, 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050.</p> <p>H.E. presented the holistic vision of UAE&rsquo;s leaders to cope with the fourth industrial revolution though innovation and efficiency. Under this scope, the speaker tackled the projects the UAE has adopted such as the Post-Oil Strategy, the Green Economy for Sustainable Development Initiative and the National Innovation Strategy, which includes the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park for renewable energy and DEWA&rsquo;s ambitious plans. The solar park is the largest single-site solar project in the world. It will hold a capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030. DEWA also created many laboratories to support research and development in matters of energy, smart networks and efficiency. The centers will work on 3D printing, drones, prototypes, electric and mechanical engineering laboratories. H.E. also mentioned other development projects related to water desalination plants and storage using multistage flash distillation and reverse osmosis. He also highlighted the project of Hatta Station for Hydroelectric Power, which will lead to significant environmental and economic positive outcomes in Dubai.</p> <p>H.E. ended the session on a positive note, as the UAE and DEWA pledged to achieve their goals in the fields of water generation and energy efficiency within the projected timeline.</p>
