The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) recently launched an initiative called ‘The Engine’ that seeks to empower radical entrepreneurs with the comprehensive support needed to develop their biggest and most transformative ideas.

Speaking on day two of the World Government Summit 2017 in Dubai, the President of MIT’s Enterprise Forum, Kathleen Kennedy, explained ‘The Engine’ seeks to support a new type of entrepreneur that the world needs.

“With nine billion people set to inhabit the planet soon, we need new ways to produce water, food and education for these people,” she said. “’The Engine’ is designed facilitate patient capital for inventors and entrepreneurs who need a much longer runway.”

Comprising a venture fund, incubator and accelerator programme, and an engine room – designed as “an Airbnb for equipment, lab space and expertise” – ‘The Engine’ will also soon roll out a global ‘invention education programme’. For more information visit engine.xyz.
